Our products are manufactured at our factory in Cape Town, supported by top-tier local technicians and a production team which is widely respected for its professionalism and expertise. STATIONERY SOLUTIONS:
Equipping students, artists and office workers with the tools to get the job done. We manufacture pens, highlighters, markers as well as products that complement these writing instruments such as pencil cases, rulers, stencils and paper storage systems.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
Penflex furnishes your living space with functional and colourful plastic homeware. We manufacture bins in a variety of sizes for waste management, laundry carts and storage containers for keeping things organised. Our tableware includes plastic plates, cups, tumblers and glasses suitable for everyday use indoor or outdoors.
WATER INDUSTRY:
We manufacture a range of water bottles from 11.4l to 18l in capacity. Some have variations such as a handle, a tap or no handle. Additionally we manufacture non spill caps for these bottles.
VEHICLE ACCESSORIES:
We cater to car owners with vehicle accessories like door guards to protect against scratches and dents and squeegees to maintain a clean windshield.
WINDOW BLIND COMPONENTS:
We contribute to the window blind industry by manufacturing key components for both Vertical and Venetian blinds. Parts include carriers, control chains, and bottom weights. Additionally, we supply strung and unstrung curtain hooks, and mechanisms for controlling roller blinds.

The company initially offered a variety of traditional window blinds, including fabric vertical blinds, roller blinds, aluminium and wood Venetian blinds, as well as Roman and honeycomb blinds. These products were designed to cater to both residential and commercial clients, providing style, functionality, and light control.
Over time, Alplas Shutters expanded its product offering to include advanced window shutter solutions. This included fixed aluminium blade shutters, adjustable PVC blade shutters, and classic wooden shutters, allowing customers to choose from a diverse selection of designs and materials.
Today, Alplas Shutters continues to operate from its head office in Cape Town, maintaining a reputation for quality, reliable service, and innovative window covering solutions.
The company initially invested in a single injection moulding machine, which provided the foundation for in-house component production. As demand continued to increase, the manufacturing capacity was expanded to include a total of four injection moulding machines, enabling a more efficient and scalable production process.
By producing its own components, Alplas Shutters was able to respond more quickly to customer requirements, reduce lead times, and maintain a higher standard of quality across its product range.
With the expanded facilities and increased production capacity, the range of window blind components manufactured in-house continued to grow. This allowed the company to produce a wider variety of products internally, further improving efficiency and the ability to meet customer demands.
At this stage, the company already had extensive experience in manufacturing plastics and window blind components. The addition of writing instruments marked an important expansion of the company’s production capabilities, creating a new dimension to its manufacturing expertise.
As the product range continued to grow, so did the need for additional storage and production space. To accommodate this expansion, the company relocated to a larger premises on Dawn Road in Montague Gardens, providing more room for machinery, inventory, and future growth.

To capitalize on the combined expertise and over 30 years of manufacturing experience, the founder made the decision to appoint a CEO to lead both Alplas Plastics and Penflex. This strategic move was aimed at driving further growth, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening the company’s position in both the stationery and manufacturing markets.
The company also focused on designing and manufacturing moulds for a variety of items, including laundry carts, a range of bins, storage solutions, and other new product lines. This expansion enabled Alplas Plastics to diversify its offerings and better meet customer needs.
This development marked a strategic shift in the company’s focus, reflecting its commitment to growth, innovation, and enhanced manufacturing capabilities.
Following this, all advertising and promotional efforts were concentrated on the Penflex brand. This strategic focus helped to firmly establish Penflex in the digital space, enhancing brand visibility, strengthening customer engagement, and reinforcing its position as a leading stationery brand.
Through their investment vehicle, the Legacy Africa Capital Partners Fund, they focus on investing in African companies across a range of industries, including chemicals, consumer goods, technology, and industrial products. This strategic approach aims to support growth, innovation, and operational excellence in the companies they back.
The partnership with Legacy Africa highlighted the success and resilience of Penflex and Alplas Plastics, serving as a testament to the founder, Asher Saban’s, 50 years of dedication, growth, and strategic investment in building and expanding these businesses.
In addition, the company’s logo was updated to prominently highlight its South African heritage, accompanied by the slogan, “MADE TO INSPIRE.” This change reinforced the brand’s commitment to local manufacturing and its mission to inspire creativity and productivity through high-quality stationery products.
